  Mary-Louise Parker (born August 2 1964) is an American actress. After making her Broadway debut as Rita in Craig Lucas's Prelude to a Kiss in 1990 (for which she was awarded an Tony Award nomination), Parker gained notoriety for roles in films such as Grand Canyon (1991), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Client (1994), Bullets over Broadway (1994), A Place for Annie (1994), Boys on the Side (1995), The Portrait of a Lady (1996) as well as The Maker (1997). Parker won the 2001 Tony Award as Best Actress in an independent film for her role in David Auburn's Proof of Catherine Llewellyn. Between 2001 and 2006, she recurred in the role of Amy Gardner in the NBC television series The West Wing, for which she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in the Drama Series in 2002. Most well-known for her roles in American television series Law & Order (where she played Claire Kincaid, a prosecutor) and Crossing Jordan (where she played Jordan Cavanaugh for six seasons).
